Alcohol and legislation at OnlyWines
At OnlyWines, responsible enjoyment comes first. We strictly comply with Dutch laws and regulations on the sale of alcoholic drinks. This page explains what that means for you as a customer.
No sales to minors
The main rule of Dutch alcohol law is clear: we do not sell alcohol to anyone under 18. This applies to all wines and sparkling wines in our range. We do this not only because it is legally prohibited, but also because we simply do not want to.
How do we check age?
To make sure we only deliver to adults, we apply a strict verification process at two moments:
Online age verification
Before you visit our webshop, we ask you to confirm that you are 18 or older. If you are, your order is confirmed and we prepare it for shipping. We trust that you complete this honestly.
Identification on delivery (ID check)
When handing over the parcel, the courier will always ask for a valid ID if there is any doubt about the age (up to 25). This is a legal obligation. Your order then goes to PostNL, which will ask for identification when delivering your parcel.
Your parcel can only be delivered to the specified address or to a PostNL point. Not at home? Then your parcel is taken to a PostNL point, where your age will still be verified.
Important
The parcel may not be accepted by minors, even if the order was placed and paid for by an adult. If no one aged 18 or over is present, the courier cannot deliver the parcel.
Responsible sales and promotions
Alcohol law also limits discounts. Since 1 July 2021 it is forbidden to give more than 25% discount on alcoholic drinks with an alcohol percentage of 25% or higher. You will therefore never see “buy 2, get 1 free” promotions on wine with us, because we keep to the maximum legal discount.
Since 1 July 2021 a new alcohol law applies, with even more emphasis on reducing alcohol use among young people.
Why do these rules exist?
These rules are laid down in the alcohol law to prevent alcohol use among young people and to protect public health. As a recognised wine merchant we take this responsibility very seriously.
NIX18: No smoking, no drinking under the age of 18.
Enjoy, but drink in moderation: drink responsibly.
